The following statement is attributed to ACLU SoCal Executive Director Hector Villagra:

"Under Chief Beck's leadership, the LAPD has made significant strides in embracing community policing and maintaining trust between police and immigrant communities. He has demonstrated a willingness to listen to all stakeholders, and made thoughtful changes to policies that improve public safety, including vehicle impounds and revised enforcement of daytime curfew laws to encourage students to attend school, rather than stay away. But there remain significant concerns around racial disparities in the department's enforcement activities; increased collection of information of Los Angeles residents who are not suspected of any criminal activity; and the overreaching use of gang injunctions. Chief Beck and city leaders must address these issues when considering the Department's direction going forward.”
