Watch award-winning artist, filmmaker, and national bestselling author Tourmaline in conversation with Co-Director of the ACLU's LGBT & HIV Project Chase Strangio.

This week, in partnership with the Library Foundation of Los Angeles and CIRCA, we presented a timely and important conversation about the fight for transgender people and their rights across our country today with renowned award-winning artist, filmmaker, and national bestselling author Tourmaline and Chase Strangio, co-director of the ACLU’s LGBT & HIV Project.

Tourmaline discussed her latest book Marsha, the first definitive biography of the revolutionary activist Marsha P. Johnson—one of the most iconic figures in LGBTQIA+ history—and how her story and legacy can inspire us today.

This event was part of the fall program for the Library Foundation of Los Angeles's ALOUD series as well as the One Institute's month-long CIRCA Festival. This episode is the second in a three-part collaboration with the ACLU SoCal called “We the People.”

Join us for our next event featuring Tim Wu, author, policy advocate, and professor at Columbia University, and Mohammad Tajsar, senior staff attorney at the ACLU Foundation of Southern California, to discuss Wu’s new book The Age of Extraction. Learn more and register now.
