ACLU SoCal Statement on L.A. Board of Supervisors' Vote Not to Appeal on Ruling Over County Seal

Please attribute the following statement to Peter Eliasberg, chief counsel of the ACLU Foundation of Southern California (ACLU SoCal) and the Manheim Family Attorney for First Amendment Rights:

The ACLU SoCal is pleased that the Board of Supervisors has chosen to let stand the district court’s ruling that Los Angeles County cannot favor one religion over all others practiced by its residents, especially on the principal symbol of the county.
The ill-conceived and misguided effort to alter the county seal and favor Christianity over all other faiths has cost taxpayers at least $1 million. Today’s action guarantees that the taxpayers will not be forced to suffer further.
It is time for the board to put its time, energy and resources into representing all the people of L.A. County.
