This Fourth of July, as we celebrate our nation's independence, we reflect on the values our country was founded on: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. This has come to be known as the American Dream. Check out our video above highlighting aspiring citizens who want to share in this dream with us.
Just last week, the U.S. Senate took historic action and passed S.744, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Modernization Act, paving the way for a roadmap to citizenship for many. Nonetheless, serious hurdles threaten to keep many immigrants in the shadows and subject them, along with U.S. residents and citizens, to serious civil rights violations.
Immigration reform must be inclusive and protect the civil liberties and civil rights embedded in our Constitution, including due process, equal protection and privacy for everyone in our country, especially those communities on the border. These are our American values.
On this Fourth of July, make your voices heard and tell your representatives to move forward on immigration reform. The time is now. Share this video and take action. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook.
