In 2004, Congress established Constitution Day, a day celebrating our founding document. On September 17, all schools that receive federal funding are required to observe Constitution Day by teaching a curriculum on the U.S. Constitution. Many public schools across the nation are unaware of this federal requirement to observe Constitution Day, and there are few resources available to help teachers develop requisite lesson plans.

To help, the ACLU of Southern California provides Constitution Day speakers to middle schools and high schools throughout L.A. County to complement their U.S. History and American government classes. Participating in this program will help leave young people with a better understanding of individual rights, civil liberties and the Constitution’s influences on their daily lives.
