Los Alamitos, Huntington Beach Residents Rally Before Superior Court Hearing
SANTA ANA — On Wednesday, the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Southern California, the ACLU Immigrants’ Rights Project, the National Day Laborer Organizing Network, and the law firm Latham & Watkins will be in court to appeal a ruling that allowed the City of Huntington Beach to ignore the California Values Act.
The act, also known as SB 54, was signed into law last year to restore trust between police and immigrant communities in the face of the Trump administration’s plan to use local law enforcement agencies as tools of its anti-immigrant agenda.
Before the hearing, community leaders and activists will hold a press conference and rally in front of the courthouse.
WHAT: Press conference and rally before a court hearing to ensure local cities comply with the California Values Act.
WHO: Speakers will include:
- The Reverend Samuel Pullen, pastor of the Community Congregational United Church of Christ of Los Alamitos. He is a plaintiff in the case.
- A representative of the Oak View ComUNIDAD coalition.
- Jessica Bansal, Senior Staff Attorney at the ACLU SoCal.
- Salvador G. Sarmiento, National Campaign Coordinator at NDLON.
