Rep. Nanette Barragán to host event (4/14) in Compton featuring his family and dignitaries
Deported U.S. Army veteran Hector Barajas, who returned to the U.S. Friday after living the last eight years in Mexico, will be honored at an event at his parent's home in Compton on Saturday. He will be re-united with friends and family, and greeted by several speakers.
Barajas, a decorated vet who received an honorable discharge after serving nearly six years in the military, was granted a full pardon in 2017 by Gov. Jerry Brown for a conviction that led to his deportation. Barajas and activists worked over the last year to secure his return to the U.S.
On Friday, shortly after walking over the border to San Diego, Barajas was sworn-in as a U.S. citizen.
