Ads Demand Representatives Stand Up and Protect Our Dreamers

SACRAMENTO — Today the three California ACLU affiliates launched new radio ads targeting Representatives Paul Cook (CA-08) and Devin Nunes (CA-22) demanding they support allowing Dreamers to live and work in the U.S. The ads are part of the #CAisMyHome campaign launched by the ACLU of California last week.

You can hear the ads here: https://soundcloud.com/user-563502852/sets/aclu-caismyhome-radio-ads/s-mAEHI

The 60-second ads will run for one week in both districts.

Today's ads come after reports that Senate Republicans and President Trump agreed not to include any measures to protect Dreamers in the end of year must-pass legislation to fund the government. In September, President Trump put 800,000 young Americans at risk by unlawfully revoking DACA. If Congress doesn't take action before the end of 2017, each business day the federal government will deprive 1,400 more Dreamers will of their ability to legally live and work in the U.S. California alone is home to the highest number of DACA-recipients and stands to lose more than $11.6 billion in annual financial value if Dreamers aren’t allowed to work.

Jennie Pasquarella, director of Immigrants' Rights for the ACLU of California, said,

"Congressmen Cook and Nunes are key votes in determining whether our fellow Californians can stay in their homes and our communities or whether they will be deported. Now is the moment for them to act and stand up for Dreamers. There is bipartisan support and a narrow window to act on legislation to protect Dreamers; California Republicans must not allow President Trump and Senate Republicans to close it."
