Dignity Health Has Refused Treatment to Women and LGBTQ Patients
LOS ANGELES — Dignity Health, a Catholic hospital chain, has denied medical services to transgender patients and to women seeking reproductive health procedures as widely accepted as tubal ligations. And yet, the University of California public system has formed alliances with Dignity Health on several fronts in San Francisco and additional alliances could be in the offing state-wide. More than 1,500 UC faculty members have signed a petition protesting the partnership because of Dignity Health’s practices based on religious beliefs rather than the best medical care for patients.
On Tuesday, April 9, faculty members, students, and advocates will hold a rally at UCLA before a meeting by the University of California Board of Regents' Health Services Committee to protest the partnership. Many of those taking part in the rally will then go inside to give public testimony before the committee.
