Bio
Julia A. Gomez is a Senior Staff Attorney at the ACLU of Southern California, where she focuses on protecting and expanding the right to vote through impact litigation and policy advocacy. Before joining the ACLU, Julia was an attorney at MALDEF, where she litigated voting rights and immigrants’ rights cases. Her work has included litigation under the California Voting Rights Act and Section 2 of the federal Voting Rights Act, as well as 2020 Census-related challenges involving the citizenship question and efforts to exclude undocumented immigrants from the apportionment count. More recently, Julia has focused on protecting California voters from a new wave of attacks, including efforts by the federal government and other officials to restrict access to the ballot and obtain sensitive voter information. She also works on First Amendment and open-government matters.
Julia started her career as Civil Rights Fellow at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP, where she worked on complex commercial litigation and a range of pro bono matters. She is a graduate of Columbia Law School and the University of California, Los Angeles.
