With 336,265 residents and growing, Anaheim is the tenth largest city in California today, and yet the largest city in the state to hold at-large elections. This means there are no districts from which voters can elect a local resident to represent their community on city council.
Fortunately, earlier this year, ACLU SoCal announced a settlement agreement in Moreno v. City of Anaheim that would allow Anaheim voters to definitively decide how their members are elected to city council. On November 4, Anaheim will vote on Measures L and M to ensure equal representation on a citywide level.
- Measure L will require that council members live in the district they represent, allowing voters to elect their council member from their own neighborhood.
- Measure M will add two seats to the city council to meet the needs of the growing community.
