Orange County is home to a diverse population of three million with approximately three thousand ACLU members, many of them new to civil rights advocacy. The Chapter is in place to support local members in promoting civil rights and liberties. Two important recent examples of local activism and focus from ACLU SoCal are the Orange County Jails Project and the Homeless Project.
Although new, our Chapter is proud to have sponsored two type of events: directed flyering of Know Your Rights literature in at-risk neighborhoods and National Lawyers Guild legal observer training. We will continue to outreach to members throughout Orange County to better understand local needs, grow relationships with local partners, and expand our ability for future activism.
