Sheriff Debates Did you know the Los Angeles County Sheriff is an elected official? Come meet the candidates for the upcoming L.A. Sheriff election at the L.A. Sheriff Debates, moderated by the League of Women Voters. Six candidates competing for the office will participate in the second coalition-led debate scheduled on on April 24 in Santa Monica. Former Sheriff Lee Baca stepped down at the end of January making this one of the most open and widely contested sheriff’s election in recent memory.
